TWIGGY
Twiggy truly epitomized the sixties. Starting her career at the young age of sixteen, she became internationally known as the world's first supermodel. Loved for her boyish haircut, strikingly mod eye makeup and stick thin frame (thus her nickname), Twiggy adorned almost every magazine cover of the era, including Vogue. She only modeled a mere four years before leaving the fashion industry to start acting in film and TV. However, she's still a relevant style icon for women around the world.
ANNA KARINA
Best known as a muse of French New Wave film director, Jean-Luc Godard, Anna Karina embodied the sassy and confident spirit of the sixties generation. She hitchhiked to Paris from Denmark at the age of seventeen. Speaking no French at the time, Anna performed on the streets for money before she was discovered at a cafe by an advertising agent. Jean-Luc Godard first spotted Karina in a bath tub on television doing a Palmolive commercial. He ended up casting her in seven of his films, including The Little Soldier, A Woman is a Woman and Band of Outsiders.
JANE FONDA
The daughter of legendary film star Henry Fonda, Jane Fonda's first starring film role came in 1965 playing a good girl-turned-outlaw in the comedic western, Cat Ballou. By the time the erotic sci-fi movie Barbarella came out in 1968, Fonda was an international sex symbol. Flaunting her figure in skintight futuristic body suits but still keeping her all American girl appeal, Jane Fonda made a lasting impression on moviegoers that continues to this day.
